| I need to bring my hibiscus in the house over winter. I plant them in thier pots and then simply dig up the pot when it is time to bring them in. DOSN'T WORK FOR ME. It seems that my hibiscus always die before I can replant them in the spring. Any suggestins on over-winter care? |
| Although some gardeners are able to make that system work for them, in my experience the uprooting is very stressful on the plants. You might try growing them as year round container plants and bring them indoors in the fall before temperatures drop below 55 degrees. Gradually acclimate them to being indoors by moving them to a partially shaded area for a week or two prior to coming inside. This helps them adjust to the lower indoor light levels and avoids temperature shock. Also be sure to inspect very carefully for insects before you bring them inside. Once indoors, provide average room temperature with high humidity, good air circulation (but no drafts) and very bright light. They may drop some leaves when they come inside but that is to be expected while they undergo the adjustment. I hope this helps! |
