The Q&A Archives: Ant Problem

Question: How can I keep ants from eating my flowering cherry tree without hurting the tree?

Answer: Generally speaking the ants should not be harmful to the tree. It is possible however they are attracted to sap or honeydew from another insect such as aphids. I would suggest you consult with your local Penn State county extension to see if they can help you determine if there is actually a problem with your tree. Based on knowing that they can suggest any needed control measures.
