| To Whom it May Concern, I live in Northern Alabama where we had a very late freeze this year; thus, alot of our flowering shurbs died off prematurely or were stunned (i.e. our Azalas and Crapt Myrtles). Particularly noticable is our Crapt Myrtles. The Myrtles had begun to sprout and grew several inches before they were stunned. Now, we're left with dark dead-looking stalks (as they appear in the winter)... in the last few days we've begun to see some new foliage appear at the base. Should the few dead inches of branches be pruned to make room for the new growth or will the new foliage eventually consume it enough to grow normally? Thank you for your time. | Kellie, I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up! I'd recommend you cut back all dead growth to the point where it joins living wood. This way the plant will be cleaned up and look great when the new growth comes in and rebuilds the plant.
