Are their chemicals you can use to control weeds in a vegetable garden without killing the vegetable plants? Or how do you control weeds?

The best way to control weeds in a vegetable garden is to disturb the soil surface several times during the early spring to disrupt early germinating weeds -- just a light raking or shallow hoeing. Then use an organic mulch over the soil surface to prevent weeds from growing. The mulch also helps reduce watering needs and will feed the soil gradually as it breaks down over time as well. Keep in mind also that tilling brings additional weed seeds to the surface where they can germinate, so reduce tilling as much as possible. Many gardeners find that soil that is well prepared initially needs only a light spading or simply a furrow before planting in the spring.
