The Q&A Archives: sod

Question: Why are there yellow patches on freshly laid sod?

Answer: The most likely causes of yellow spots on new sod are 1) dog urine and 2) the roots of the sod did not make good contact with the soil and are therefore not getting the moisture you need. If you don't think dogs have damaged the lawn, then cut out one of the yellow areas to see if the roots of the sod actually have contact with the soil. I'm guessing they don't.
