The Q&A Archives: grow bamboos

Question: i've bought some bamboos that you keep in water. now they've grown to atleast 3 feet tall, can i plant them out side in the soil. if yes when is the good time to plant them. how fast will they grow and will they grow wild.

Answer: Mav,

I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!

I suspect that you are describing the plant called "curly bamboo" or "lucky bamboo" which is actually a type of Dracaena a tropical houseplant. Those plants could not take freezing temperatures.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
