Spring flowering shrubs such as rhododendrons should be pruned immediately after they have finished flowering. This will give them all summer to develop flower buds for next spring's flower display. Summer blooming shrubs should be pruned after they have finished flower. I'd wait to prune the rhodie until after the flowers are spent.

Best wishes with your landscape!
