| My daffodil bulbs did not bloom well. I guess they need digging and replanting. When is the best time to do this and what preparation should I make? |
| If the bulbs are overcrowded and competing for nutrients and moisture, they should be dug and replanted. Wait until the leaves have dried up before digging the bulbs. (Leaves provide the bulbs with the nutrients they need to develop new flowers next season.) After the leaves have shriveled up, dig the bulbs and store, in a cool, dry location. like a garage. Replant in the fall. Prepare the new area by incorporating some organic matter into the soil, to a depth of about 6 inches. Plant with 5-6 inches of soil over the tops of the bulbs and space them about 8 inches apart. Bulbs should be divided and replanted about every 2-3 years. |
