I have a very hard, sandy soil. I was wondering what kind of flowered perennials are best for that soil type and what can handle the heat and flooding here in Southern Louisiana?I love Hostas and alot of them when I lived in MD.I dont see them in the stores down here.Is there a reason they cant be planted down here? |
Stephanie, I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up! Your heat and humidity combo is too much for hostas in most cases. Other plants to consider include lantana, Salvia 'Mystic Spires', and perennial hibiscus. Mix several inches into the planting beds prior to planting to improve water and nutrient holding capacity and to keep the soil looser. Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon! |
