Our front yard lawn looks dry and uneven.I would like to make it look beautiful, greener and thicker. Please tell me what to do to improve it. |
You may be able to gradually smooth out the lawn by topdressing with compost and gently rolling it with a light roller in early spring when it is throroughly damp, followed by some core aeration to help reduce compaction and improve infiltration of water and fertilizer. You should also run some basic soil tests to check the fertility and pH of the soil, then fertilize and/or add lime based on the test results. Your local county extension should be able to help you with the testing and interpreting the results, suggest the best variety of grass for the growing conditions in your yard, and also help you devise a lawn care plan. If your lawn really needs extensive work, surprisingly, late summer to early fall is the best time to do that. In the meantime, you may find some helpful lawn care information at their web site.
