Pansies grow best in the cooler weather of fall and spring. By summer as the weather turns hot pansies usually decline and lose vigor. Sometimes they manage to survive and then revive in the fall, but most gardeners treat them like annuals. Plant them in a sunny location in the fall for fall and spring bloom or plant in the early spring for spring display, then replace them with something else for summer.
