We have forest pines on the side of our yard. Someone cut the long branches from one leaving a large hole back to the trunk. What can we plant that needs little sun and grows about 4 - 5' tall and about 3' wide? We are trying desparately to fill in the gaping hole. THANK YOU

Unfortunately, very few plants will grow in this type of location. The pine provides shade and also blocks rain from reaching the ground, the roots also steal moisture and nutrients. You might be able to grow a rhododendron there, but it will be difficult to establish it due to the root competition. For this reason you might want to consider using something other than a plant to improve the view. Perhaps a nice high backed bench or sculptural piece would do the job?
