Something is eating up my basil plants (outdoors) and not seeming to bother the parsley or pepper plants so much. Is there a non-chemical I can use or make to keep pests off the plants? Thanks!

It is difficult to make a recommendation without knowing what is causing the damage. It might be slugs; these are nocturnal and eat holes in the foliage, they also leave a tell-tale silvery trail. Slug can be handpicked in the evening, or you can use a bait containing iron phosphate per the label directions. Some gardeners also have some success using the commercial slug traps baited with stale beer.
