I WAS GIVEN A KUMQUAT TREE (DON'T KNOW THE VARIETY)
i IS ONLY ABOUT 3-4' TALL. IT HAD LOTS OF FRUIT BUT THEY WERE MEALY NOT JUICY. I PRUNED IT BACK IN THE WINTER AND AM HOPEFUL FOR MORE FRUIT. SO FAR I HAVE NONE. IT IS NOT SPRING (MAY) I FERTILIZE IT WITH CITRUS FERTILIZER. IT GETS FULL SUN. i LOVE THE FRUIT AND WOULD LOVE TO BE ABEL TO ENJOY THEM.

Claire,

I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!

Go ahead and fertilize the kumquat just don't overdo it. It should bloom in time and then set fruit. The reason for the mealy fruit is most likely that they were overmature and would have been better if harvested a little earlier.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
