The Q&A Archives: Information on growing and taking care of hibiscus plants

Question: I brought a Red Bloom Flor Roja hisbiscus Plant from Home Depot. Trying to find out how large it will grow and need to know how deep to plant it. Also can you tell me what kind of fertilizer I need to feed it

Answer: I believe the plant you purchased is the tropical hibiscus, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis. This plant likes full sun and hot summer temperatures. During the summer, keep it well watered and fertilize regularly with a water soluble fertilizer or a slow release granular fertilizer per the label directions. In the fall, if you want to keep it for next year, you will need to bring it indoors as a houseplant for the winter. Bring it indoors before temperatures fall below 55 degrees.
