Since you are new to gardening and have had some problems so far, I would suggest you take a look at a book or two about gardening to review some of the basics. The Dummies series includes numerous books on gardening and landscaping that are very good, providing practical information you can use right away. They are widely available in bookstores and libraries.

You might also want to check with your local county extension and public gardens and see if they offer any information or classes for local gardeners. The Rutgers extension offers some publications on their web site. You may need to cut and paste the complete url into your browser to make it work correctly.

In general, the most important things about gardening are soil preparation and selecting plants that are well suited to the site. Your county extension should be able to help you with testing your soil and interpreting the results.
