I have a large medium sloped hill I would like to plant with flower beds as mowing is out of the question. I need help in design and plants to use. I do not wish to dig out flat beds, I prefer them to slope.

Fran,

I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!

We don't have any diagrams for hillside gardening. However your best bet is to create terraces to form a stairstep design to reduce erosion and make walking easier. If you don't want this design then you can try planting rows of clumping ornamental grasses across the slope to hold the soil. Try not to leave the soil unplanted in any areas for long after so that a hard rain doesn't make it wash away.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
