How do I kill the roots of a half dead apple tree and a weeping willow without destroying my lawn or the other bushes around them?

Start by making fresh cuts through the trunks of the trees or the exposed roots. You can use Round-Up, full strength and paint it on the cuts. Be careful, if you get it on any live plants, they will be killed.
