The Q&A Archives: Tomatoes

Question: I am growing some Early Girl Tomatoes. At what point should they be picked.

Answer: Jonathan,

I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!

Harvest them when they turn fully red. If for some reason you need to pick them earlier let them reach the mature green stage (full size and the interior chamber around the seeds is gelatinous) then harvest them and allow them to ripen on a counter at room temperature. Don't refrigerate tomatoes.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
