Im currently creating a patio border. It slopes from the patio to the grass 3 ft. wide at a pretty good slope. Im concerned that the soil will erode. Any suggestions to help avoid this? should I put boulders at the bottom or will plants hold the dirt in place? Help! |
You can help reduce soil erosion by making sure that there are always plants growing on the soil, and that the soil is rich in humus (decaying plant and animal remains). This organic matter is the "glue" that binds the soil particles together and plays an important part in preventing erosion. I'd suggest a low growing groundcover; the roots will help knit the soil together. Once you've got the groundcover in, you can plant annuals or perennials in the area by simply digging planting holes and removing the groundcover in those spots. Best wishes with your new border! |
