Garden Soil has a lot of ashes from wood/coal, what to do/add to soil to improve for gardening?

Unfortunately, the ashes are a real problem. It is not safe to garden with coal ashes, and excessive quantitites of wood ashes can make the soil exceedingly alkaline as well as leaching salt and elevating potassium levels. I would suggest you try to locate it in a different area. I wish I could be more encouraging.
