I want to plant some achimenes in some hanging baskets this year. I'm not sure how big they get...how many will I need to plant per basket?

You can plant 4-6 rhizomes per 6" pot. If you have a 10" hanging basket, you can fit in 8-10, and 10-12 in a 12" pot. They need a peat-based, freely draining potting mix (they grow best in acidic soils). By summer's end, they'll have multiplied, and you can store all rhizomes for replanting next season. Allow them to air dry in a shaded area, and place them in an airy place in an onion bag. Enjoy!
