I am planning on planting 5-10 plants in pretty good size pots around my deck and pool. I travel a fair amount and need low matienence plants. Also, I would prefer something that might last year round? Also, I would prefer a little variety if possible. Thanks |
There are so many choices! If the containers are in full sun, you can plant heather (Erica), which will bloom 3-4 times a year; Vaccinium corymbosum. The highbush blueberry is faintly honey scented, with white urn-shaped flowers. It has good interest through all four seasons, between spring flowers, summer foliage, gorgeous fall color, and interesting bark. It has edible black fruit, and gets to about 4 ft high. Mahonia (Berberis) nervosa is Low Oregon Grape. It prefers shade, but can take some sun. Yellow flowers in early spring followed by edible blue fruit. Erigeron glaucous (Seaside Daisy) Full sun. Lavender summer flowers. 8-12" Evergreen. You might also try dwarf nandina (heavenly bamboo), 'Rotunda' Chinese holly, or 'Emerald Gaiety' Euonymus. Hope these suggests are helpful! |
