Sandra,

I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!

Identifying a cactus is not an easy task. You can try looking through books or you may also want to see if there is a cactus society or club in your area. A member of the group may be able to help identify plant for you.

Repotting is usually done by wrapping thick newspaper around the stem of the plant to make it possible to handle it. Then place it in the next larger size pot and fill in around the root with a loose gritty potting mix with extra sand or very fine gravel.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
