| I bought 4 tomato plants from my little brother's plant sale and put them each in 5 gallon pots. I keep the soil moist and try not to do more than that, but I check everyday. They won't grow! They seem to be alive but the leaves are yellow at the ends and they aren't really growing. What do I do? How often should I feed? With what? How often do I water? Should I cut off the leaves with yellow ends? help!!! |
| Tomatoes are warm season vegetables and the plants won't really begin to grow until the weather warms up. (You've had a couple of sunny days, but the temperatures have remained cold for several weeks so far this season.) Place your tomatoes in the sunniest spot in your garden (8 hours minimum). If you use a water soluable fertilizer such as Miracle-Gro, you can feed everytime you water (dissolve one tablespoon of granules in a one-gallon container of water). Feeding this way will provide a constant source of nutrients without the possibility of over-feeding and burning the roots of your plants. Water when the top inch of potting soil feels dry. Don't cut the leaves off your plants - they need the leaves to manufacture and transport carbohydrates to the roots of your plants. Best wishes with your tomato plants! |
