| Ruth, I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up! Something is seriously wrong with your gardenia in the root system. It could be from soggy soil conditions or from root rots. From your description I would guess that your plant may be too far gone to save. However what is in your power is to maintain just moderate soil moisture to give it a chance to recover.
