The Q&A Archives: Frost damaged azaleas

Question: My azaleas got badly nipped by a late hard frost just prior to blooming. Should I cut them back now? Should I feed them an acid fertilizer now?

Answer: Bonnie,

I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!

Cut back any brown or dead areas now. Fertilize the plants lightly with an azalea/camellia type plant food and water it in well. This should encourage good vigor and the bushes will put out new growth and be back in good shape again soon.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
