The Q&A Archives: pruning Japanese Red Maple Tree

Question: I recently purchased a Japanese Red Maple Tree- How shall I prune it?

Answer: Jacqueline,

I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!

Those trees don't generally need pruning except to remove broken, diseased or crossing limbs. After that you can trim as you like to create the shape or form you desire but from the tree's standpoint not much pruning is needed if any at all.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
