| The side of our yard slopes down to our neighbors driveway. I'm afraid that anything I plant (flowers, grass...) will wash down into their driveway. What sort of thing do you recommend? |
| As a matter of fact, plant roots will help to knit the soil together and prevent erosion. Depending upon whether the site is sunny or shady, you might opt to plant groundcovers such as vinca minor or ajuga. If you like ornamental grasses (low maintenance which is important on a slope!) consider Carex tenuiculmis'Cappuccino'. 'Cappuccino' is known for its bronze foliage. The bronze hue is one that often won't hold up without sun, so it's unusual to see a bronze-colored plant that grows so well in shady areas, holding its color all year long. 'Cappuccino' tolerates some dryness as well. Or, Carex morrowii 'Variegata'; This ornamental grass is perfect for damp shady spaces. It grows best in moist soil and can be used in wet areas. It can reach a height of 24 inches and has a very subtle variegation, adding a bright accent to dark areas. Best wishes with your landscape! |
