The Q&A Archives: strawberry plants

Question: i have planted strawberryplants i purchased at the depot. my problem is something iseating the berrys when they areripe.HELP''''

Answer: There are a variety of animals that might eat ripe strawberries. Birds will peck at them, turtles, possums, skunks, mice and voles, and so on will eat them. Your best approach is probably to fence the garden and keep them out, or you can try using one of the spray or granular repellents labeled for whichever animal you suspect is the culprit. If you think the problem is birds, sometimes you can deter them by stringing fishing line just above the plants. Good luck with your berries!
