My shrubs are mostly brown but seem to be trying to grow. I'm told there is a chemical I should try w/acid in it. Any ideas?

Rather than try finding a chemical to help your plants, try pruning away the obviously dead portions. Pruning usually stimulates new growth, which can completely cover up winter kill by mid-summer.

Best wishes with your shrubs!
