Bee Balm (Monarda) is an expert in attracting beneficial bees and butterflies, too. Most garden insecticides can kill the caterpillar stages of the butterflies. Adult butterflies also can be killed by resting on insecticide-treated surfaces. Honeybees are especially susceptible to any insecticides you might be tempted to use. I'd recommend leaving the plant alone and appreciating it for the benefits it provides to our flying insects.

Best wishes with your garden!
