| Can I transplant an established Rose of Sharon? I want to move it from one spot in my yard to another. What is the best time of year to do this? Can I do it now? I really don't want to kill it! Thanks! Linda |
| When the soil and air temperatures are coolest is the best time to move your plant. If you must move it now, be sure it is well hydrated before and after the move, and expect some dieback due to stress. I'd water the area well the day before the move, and expect most of the roots to be concentrated in the top 12" of soil, radiating out to the ends of the longest branches or stems. Start your digging there. It's okay to sever some of the smaller roots as you dig, but you'll want to avoid damaging too many of the main roots. Set the plant in its new location and water thoroughly to help settle the soil. Water deeply once each week and the roots should re-establish in a few weeks. It should perk up then and might even bloom later in the season. Best wishes with your move! |
