The Q&A Archives: lilly

Question: I have a bright orange, tropical looking flower someone said was a lilly. can you tell me more about this. Very tall stalk with five or six blooms on one stalk....

Answer: Without seeing the plant, it is difficult to identify. I suspect you have an Asiatic Lily. These plants grow in full sunshine and bloom in early summer. All they need is full sunshine and ample water while they are growing. After the flowers fade you can cut them off the plant, but leave the stem and the foliage alone (they are manufacturing energy for storage in the bulb, which will be used to produce next year's bloom

Enjoy your lily!
