The Q&A Archives: Transplant Soil

Question: When I transplant my seedlings from my starting cells into individual containers do I use regular potting soil or continue to use sterile soilless seed starting mix?

Answer: Seedlings can go into regular potting soil when you take them out of the cells or flats. The soilless starting mix is just easier for the new roots to penetrate. Once the seedlings have begun to grow they'll be strong enough to make the transition topotting mix. When they're stronger still, they'll be ready to go into regular garden soil.
