| We planted four Red Maple trees (Acer Rubrum) about two and a half months ago and planted them as instructed, digging a hole 3 times the size deep and wide with a well around putting miracle grow solution mixed in with the soil before placing the tree in the ground and then putting fertilizer spikes on top and watered daily for a few weeks and now water about twice a week. The leaves are turning brown around the edges and spotting. Some of the leaves are half brown. I cut away the brown spots on the affected leaves as best I could but one tree has every leaf affected. I also sprayed with Seven and now can only wait and see what will happen unless I get some help from you. The leaves seem to be hit by something like a blight rather than a bug as the leaves don't seem to be eaten away. Our area has had a four month rainless period with a heavy rain finally coming a few days ago but I have watered the trees pretty good to make up for it. Waiting anxiously for any help I can get. | Coleen, I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up! The symptoms on you maple point to root problems. You did a great job on everything you mentioned. I suspect soggy roots or possible too much fertilizer salts in the root zone are involved. There is no remedy now but to give it time and don't overwater. Hopefully it is in a bright spot but with plenty of shaded from the mid to late day sun. Otherwise the symtoms will likely get worse.
