Can impatiens survive with NO sun at al1? I purchased some and planted them (in containters). Now they have no blooms at all and most of them are dying or have died. I will have to purchase some more. Also, is there a sure-fire product on the market to keep pests (squirrels, cats) out of my outdoor plants?

Thank you.

Impatiens are shade loving plants but they won't grow if there is no light at all. Lack of bloom is an indication that they are not getting enough light, but they won't die within a week if they don't have adequate light. I suspect that your plants did not get the water they crave. Next time, pot them up in moist potting soil and check them daily, watering as often as necessary to keep the soil moist but not soggy wet. Cats, squirrels and other critters can usually be discouraged if you place crumpled up chicken wire on the ground near your plants. The critters tend not to like stepping on the wire.

Best wishes with your garden!
