WHAT TO DO IF I SUSPECT THE GROUND SQUIRRELS ARE EATING THE WATERMELON AS IT SHOOTS UPWARD OUT OF THE GROUND??? WHAT CAN BE USED TO PREVENT THIS? ARE WHAT SHOULD BE PUT AROUND TO PROTECT? THANKS |
Squirrels like the tender new foliage, but they generally will leave the large, mature leaves alone. So, to protect your seedlings, you can make cages out of chicken wire and place them over each plant. Won't look too attractive, but will be functional. If the squirrels can't get to your crops, they can't eat them. |
