Can we plant star magnolias on the sunny side of the house? How big will they grow to in five to ten years?

The ideal place for your star magnolia would probably be in a place that is partly shaded in the spring, with more sun in the summer. The idea is to slow down blooming in the spring--star magnolia blooms very early and these early flowers can be zapped by late snow and cold snaps.

I would not expect this tree to get much larger than 12-18 ft. in height. It is difficult to say how tall any tree will get in any given situation. This would all depend on your location geographically, where you decide to plant it, soil condition, fertilizing, etc. I would venture to say that this tree with proper care, would reach adult height in 10 years.
