We have a problem with tagging on our stone block wall, and would like to plant something that will drape over the stone block (plants can't be tagged with graffitti!), ideally something that requires little water once established. The wall varies from 3 to 5 feet tall, and the plant would have to grow about 6 inches in places to get over the wall to drape over it. Thanks in advance for your advice on what can do the trick.

In your mild climate many vines will grow year around, which will help you cover your block wall in a hurry. Whether or not a vine will prevent traffic (people or paint) remains to be seen. Sometimes it's a deterrent and sometimes it is not. Fast growing vines for your gardening region include Bougainvillea (most have thorns), Distictis, Muehienbeckia (Mattress Vine), Petrea (Queen's Wreath), Tecoma (Cape Honeysuckle) and Rhoicissus (evergreen grape). You might also consider groundcover roses (Rosa Rugosa) or Pyracantha. Both trail and should cascade over the wall.

Best wishes with your new plants!
