What is a good soil additive for planting plants that require alkaline soil, like Japanese Privets and Bouganvilla? |
In Beaumont, the soil is generally alkaline so I'm not sure you would need to add anything, unless a soil test proved otherwise. (Acidic soils are found in high rainfall areas such as the Pacific Northwest; alkaline soils are found in areas where rainfall amounts are small - such as your region.) If a soil test indicates an acidic soil and you want to plant lilacs, bougainvilleas or privets, you can add lime to the soil to help sweeten it. Lime takes several months to break down and begin changing the soil's pH, so don't expect immediate results. |
