The Q&A Archives: Honeysuckle care

Question: I have a honeysuckle vine which is on its 5th year. For some reason this spring it did not return to fully cover our trellis. I'm observing a massive group of dried old growth. Should I cut the honeysuckle back? Any suggestions to revitalize thisonce full vine?

Answer: Many honeysuckles, especially Japanese honeysuckle, have a tendency to create a lot of woody undergrowth. Cutting back to a bare-bones framework will produce healthy new growth. Honeysuckles also suffer from several diseases, including blights, rots, and viruses. Depends on the species and your location.
