I have a lot of shady spots in the garden which are along the walls. They get absolutely no sun at all. Are there any vegetables or flowers, other than impatiens, that I can grow in such areas? |
There are several degrees of "shade", from dense to slight. There are some leafy vegetables like lettuce and spinach that might work in your area, but veggies that flower and produce fruit won't thrive at all. Try planting radishes and leafy vegetables - you may be successful. As you know, impatiens are stars in a shady area. Fuchsias like the shade, too, as do Bleeding Heart, Caladium, Pansies, Sweet Woodruff, Lobelia and Hosta. Granted, not all of these plants have spectacular blossoms, butthe leaves are colorful and will brighten any garden spot. |
