I bought a grape vine and the store clerk told me to remove all the grapes on the vine when I planted it. Why?

The goal is to have plants expend their energy on developing a strong root system and foliage growth before flowering and/or fruiting. This advice is often given for tomatoes, annuals, and similar plants that are "pushed" to grow because retail customers like to see flowers and fruits, but starting with strong, "green only" plants is a good idea. Best of luck with your grape vines!
