I am trying to figure out what can i use for a flower other than a geranium for a grave setting. I already tried the geranium and for some reason it died within a week even with water daily. what other hardy flower would work that would be bright.

You might try:
Aster cordifolius (heart-leaved aster)
Aster divaricatus (white-topped aster)
Erigeron pulchellus (daisy fleabane)
Heuchera (coral bells)
Liatris graminifolia ( blazing star)
Lobelia cardinalis (cardinal flower)
Phlox stolonifera (creeping phlox)
All will do well in full sunshine and are reasonably adaptable to your weather.
