The Q&A Archives: perennials

Question: Do I fertilize perennials when I plant them?

Answer: It's actually better not to fertilize when you first plant your perennials. You'll want them to establish their roots before putting their energy into top growth. Fertilizer will promote top growth. So, wait 3-4 weeks after planting, then side-dress with a light application of fertilizer.

Best wishes with your new plants!
