| Are you sure your lawn needs an iron application? Lawns are usually heavy nitrogen users and get sufficient iron from a balanced lawn fertilizer product. Check with your University of New Mexico Bernalillo County Cooperative Ext., 1510 Menaul NW, ABQ, 87107, 505-243-1386, to see what their recommendations are for local soil conditions. As a general guideline, most shrubs shouldn't be pruned back at this time of year because it's stressful heading into the heat, when they need all of their foliage for photosynthesis. Also, removing foliage opens up now-unprotected bark tissue to sunburn, causing it to crack and split. Spring-blooming shrubs that bloom on last season's wood can be trimmed after bloom is finished. |
