How do I get rid of poison ivy? It is growing on a fence and coming in our yard & spreading. I am very allergic to it I found out.

Poison ivy is tough to eradicate and no fun to work around. You might seriously consider hiring a professional to get rid of the stuff. Poison ivy is difficult to get rid of since it has underground stems that will regrow. You can try "Finale" (I think the Safer Corp. makes this) or "Weed-Be-Gone". The best way I have found to do the trick is to actually prune the vines (being VERY careful to wear gloves and wash with a strong soap afterwards! Your pruning shears will now be affected, so clean them too.) during the heat of the day and actually PAINT the herbicide on the exposed stem. The plant, being thirsty will draw in the liquid. This can be quite effective. You may have to do this for a few seasons, but it DOES work. What's best about this method is that the herbicide will not affect other plants since this method is systemic.

Good luck with your project!
