My gardenia plant is new. The leaves are not a bright green, but rather yellowish tinged with green. What to do?

Soggy soil for an extended period can kill roots as can droughty periods of time. This is followed by yellowing and dropping of the oldest foliage. Lack of nitrogen can also cause older leaves to lose color and turn toward yellow. Try to keep the soil evenly moist by taking whatever steps are needed to prevent soggy conditions or dry conditions. Fertilize with a soluble product for acid loving plants such as Miracid at the label rate every week for a while to help stimulate some new, healthy growth. Thanks for the question.
