What is the best way to get and keep control over the pesky , obstinate puncture plant weeds? |
Puncture vine (Tribulus terrestris) is a noxious weed sometimes called ?goat head.? It is a summer annual and you can hand pull the plants before they set seed to gain control. Additionally, pre-emergent herbicides containing oryzalin or trifluralin applied in spring (April 1) will kill seedlings as they germinate during summer. Selective herbicides can be used in situations where puncture vine has invaded lawn areas. When correctly applied, a selective herbicide will kill puncture vine (and other broadleaf weeds) but not harm the grass. 2,4-D is a selective herbicide you can use to kill puncture vine in your lawn; Glyphosate (Round-Up) can be used to spot treat puncture vine (be careful - it is a non-selective herbicide and will kill any vegetation it touches, including your lawn or other plants. Best wishes with your landscape! |
